Yea yea yea, let’s get the basics out of the way. I have very fair skin, so these swatches might look different on me than you. Everyone has different skin tones and lip pigmentation, which does affect how the colors will look on YOU.

Bowery V: The picture on the site shows this almost as a lilac, but in real life it is a true mauve.

*Website describes as: Berry Mauve

I also did a wear test for this color.  I did retouch a few times, noticed substantial wear.  BUT, the wear was natural…it wasn’t chunky or flaky.  You can see this in the picture on the right below.  Not too bad!

Louvre Palace: Super light, peach nude. When I ordered this I thought this was going to be a little pinker, but it’s a nice nude color.

*Website describes as: near-natural salmon hue

Versailles: an everyday mauve

*Website describes as: berry-sienna hue

Raspberry Truffle (below on lips): This gives me a rebel by M.A.C feel. Note that this goes on patchy, but once on it settles even and lasts.

*Website describes as: lies just between red and purple

I also did a wear test for this color, Raspberry Truffle.  I wore this all day, only retouched once after I had a salad for lunch.  By the end of the day the lipstick still looked good!  Only some wear in the inside.  Really impressed.

Tattoos and Me: Part Two

Ok, so we are in part two!  Click here for part one, where I speak a little about my story with tattoos.

As I mentioned in part one, I recently watched this mini-documentary where Grace Neutral went to South Korea to explore their beauty scene.  This video notes that South Korea has one of the top beauty markets in the world.  One of the segments of the documentary focused on tattoos and how it is illegal to be a tattooer.  It just made me think a lot, I highly recommend you watch it.

One part of the video Grace (heavily tattooed) is walking through a spa with a beauty lover and she is asked to cover up.  She had to wear a trench around the spa and change in a separate room to not shake up the other folks in the spa.  It is all cultural, all relative to the place you are in.

Another part we see in the video is the journey of a girl opening up to her parents about having tattoos.  She had a lot of work done and her parents didn’t know.  Fortunately they embraced her and still accepted her when she told them, but they kept noting how they are sad for how others will view her.  It was really wonderful to see such a special and intimate moment.

I won’t go on and on, but go watch the video!  It is just over 30 minutes and a really cool look into a different side of the beauty and art culture.  We get so consumed by beauty, but it is so different around the world.

Until next time, plant nothing but love.

30 Day Makeup Challenge: 22/23

22…missed it!

23- rainbow eye shadow.  Instead of eyes, I went for lips!

  • I started with red, using a brush to apply the lipstick.  Then, after wiping the small detail brush, I applied an orange lipstick.
  • After this, I used NYX white pencil in milk for a base.  I didn’t have any yellow, green or blue lipstick.  So over the white base, I used eye shadow from the Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix palette for those colors.
  • After those were applied, I finished off the look with a purple lipstick.
  • Done!

Until next time!

30 Day Makeup Challenge: 19/20/21

19: favorite mascara

I chose one mascara from each price category.

  • Drugstore – cover girl clump crusher, close second was the rocket by maybelline.
  • Mid-range – benefit they’re real, I also love roller lash.
  • Luxury – Chanel volume de Chanel. Love this one!

20: whoops.  Life got so busy this day, that I missed the post! Moving on!

21: G. L.  I.  T.  T. E.  R.

Now, I love glitter and have no problem with the mess it tends to bring. However, I found both of these at Nordstrom Rack a while back and they are so easy!  They each have a brush tip and you can brush it on to add a little or add in light layers to build it up.  A must have!
