Daily Smoothie Snack

First of let me just throw this out there: I am not the person who can have a smoothie for breakfast or as a meal.  This body needs more!  This smoothie is a snack for me, something mid-morning or afternoon to hold me until the next meal.

I really love this smoothie.  You can throw anything in and buzz-buzz-buzz, it’s ready to drink!

For the example below I added:

  • Frozen berries
  • Frozen mixed fruit (mixture with papaya, pineapple, mango)
  • Frozen banana
  • Spinach
  • Vega protein powder
  • Water

Throw what you have in the blender and top with some coconut.  The coconut is nice not just for taste, but for aesthetics.

Yum!  Until next time, plant nothing but love.

Monthly Favorites: April 2016

April was so fun…but where did it go?   Here’s what I was loving this month.

Beauty:

Too Faced Chocolate Bar – I rediscovered this palette. I love the KVD shade and light and go for that everyday. So earlier this month I thought to switch it up. This palette you can do so much. We have mattes, shimmers, neutrals and pops of color. And that smell. Y’all already know!

Sunday Riley Luna Night Oil – I struggle with dry patches and dull skin. I feel like I could see my face looking more dull by the day. So, I did some research for this oil and it was promising. I’ve been using three drops every night and I do notice that my skin is looking better. Smoother, brighter and, overall, just in good shape! I was hesitant to spend the money, but I’m at an age where investing in skin care is a good idea.

Kat Von D ink liners – I love these so much. They are so easy to use, lots of color options and they last all day. I really like Dali, the teal one.

Random:

Lemonade – this lemonade is everything. So refreshing. If you see it…get it!

30 Day Makeup Challenge: Round-up

Overall, I’d say I had a lot of fun with this challenge!  I was doing really well, only missed a couple days here and there. But some of the challenges left me so uninspired.   So, my last post was day 25.

Here are some of my favorites.

Celebrity inspired:

Crazy eyeliner:

Ombre lips:

Favorite lippies:

I particularly loved the first part of the month, the themes wee more fun to me.  They felt more open than “patriotic” or “I’m a Barbie girl.”

Good stuff!  Until next time!

Joy

It’s freezing in Hawaii today.  Once my coffee was done I needed some warm tea to keep me going.  I opened this packet of chai rooibos and read the quote, one reason I love yogi teas.

“Joy is the essence of success.”

So what does this mean?  Is it really that easy to find joy?

If you can find a bit of joy in everything, even if just a little bit, you can feel happier.  And isn’t happiness the key to feeling successful?  Success isn’t measured by money, fame or anything else…just how you feel as a human.  I really can get behind this quote.  There’s something to be said about finding the good in anything.

So let’s try this.  Let’s exercise our right to choose how we react and perceive things. Let’s take charge of the day and choose to find joy.  I can do this.

Can you?

Until next time, plant nothing but love.

21 Day Fix

It’s always something. It’s a vacation, stress, new job, weird work hours or hormones throwing you off and making you eat poorly. Seems like once you get a taste and in the habit of eating badly, it is harder to stop. Here I am feeling like I need to refresh my body and reset my nutrition.

My friend recommended this program, 21 day fix.  The background on this plan is the focus on portion control and clean eating. I am hesitant to say “diet” because really this is re-teaching you how to portion food properly and eat the right things. You figure out what bracket you are in and match up your food accordingly. You can google the infomercial, buy the supplies on amazon or search on pinterest. All the charts below can be found on my pinterest board. This pin was really helpful to get to know how much I can eat a day.

63644b335f6e8c838943a734e9c7abb8One thing to mention is that this is a vegetarian friendly plan. The proteins include veggie burgers, tofu and, if you eat them, eggs. I am always weary about eating plans since I am a vegetarian, but there are tons of options! Beans fall into a different category, but those are approved as well. See a sample list I found below (this one includes meat).

1b48116c0a2e5a43bcb7810575116286So that is that. Oh, and you can have coffee! Score! I drink coffee black anyway, but just leave out the sugar and cream. This plan really just focuses on eating the good and real stuff. There are a lot of foods to choose from and endless recipes on pinterest if you search. The plan is setup for success. You can swap for a glass of wine or a portion of chocolate covered raisins (which we found at Costco for $10!).

From what I have heard and read, it seems that the most important part of this eating plan is PREP. So, PREP! Went to Costco today to get approved bread, proteins, fruit and veggies. The rest of the items we will up at any local food store. Seemed to be a good idea to get lots of fruit and veggies in bulk since you can eat a lot of it, same with protein.

In addition to eating properly, the plan mentions to do their 30-minute workouts each day. Now, we won’t be doing the workouts they give but we are committing to workout at least 30 minutes a day, whether it be a run, blogilates videos on YouTube, Bikram, etc.

We had our last unapproved meal…crepes. It is one of our favorites.  This is also our first meal when we are done with our 21 days!

I’ll post a blog once the 21 days is up explaining how it went. Have you tried this eating plan? Did you like it?  Share tips and recipes!

Current Favorite K-Cups

Not sure where you stand on coffee. For me… I love it. I love the ritual of it, the smell of it. Also, waking up really early for work I rely on it to put some pep in my step. For the longest time I was a French Press kinda gal, but a few years ago we splurged on a Keurig. Best thing we’ve done! Here are my favorite k-cups at the moment.

  1. Dunkin’ Donuts French Vanilla – the vanilla is not too sweet. This coffee is so delightful; it feels like a treat.
  2. Honolulu Coffee Company Kona – my dear husband got this for me as a surprise! It is delicious! The richness of the Kona coffee is great. I usually drink coffee black and brews like this remind me why.
  3. Donut Shop Coffee – this is just a normal, basic coffee brew. A classic for sure!

Also, depending on what version of a Keurig you have, you might need to use this trick I found online to make the k-cups with out the white border (like the Kona blend above) to work in your system.

What k-cups do you love?
