Review: Sephora Retractable Brow Pencil

The never-ending search for the best eyebrow products in the game continues…

On this episode, we are taking about a $13 Sephora brow pencil. There is a wide color range for this, 7 to be exact. It is always nice seeing that there are so many options for a brow color. Also, this is a mechanical pencil, so no sharpener needed.

Look how thin that is! You can really get in there with this fine tip. I have full brows, but can imagine that if you didn’t you could draw them in pretty well with short strokes using this pencil.

Waterproof! Especially on hot days, can we say, “hallelujah!” I did notice that this stayed on, granted I wasn’t swimming or anything, but it didn’t melt off.

But seriously? What is the deal with that comb? I know it is all preference with stuff like this, but that comb is terrible. It hurts as you comb through your brows. It actually leaves me red (granted I am prone to turn red due to my fair skin). I just wish they would have something with a spooley on it instead.

Not my favorite, but not the worst. That comb on the end is almost a deal breaker for me. Is that dramatic?

An Open Love Letter to Jeffree Star: Celebrity Skin

Well, my life is pretty much complete.  I love all lipstick colors, dark to bright and everything in between.  However, I struggle with the perfect nude lip.  I am fair, so it is hard to find a nude lip that isn’t too pink, too brown, too pale.  There are lots of nude colors I love, but none of them were exactly what I was looking for.

I saw pictures of celebrity skin everywhere, was so into the swatches and look of it.  So, I had been stalking his website for this color for a while, it’s so popular that is was sold out. Like, always sold out.

Until one day I am scrolling through my Instagram feed.  It is restocked.  Yes! I ordered it immediately!

It came in the mail and I put it on right away.

At first I thought, “oh no…it’s too brown.”  I let it dry and it was a huge surprise.
By surprise, I mean perfect.

This color is so pretty. Honestly, the perfect nude.

  • The brush has a curve to it, it hugs your lips as you put it on.
  • The smell is sweet but… Is that root beer?  I can’t place it, but it is lovely.
  • Application is smooth, pigmented, easy.

My day was low key.  I fell asleep and took a power nap.  When I woke up I ate and watched tv then figured I would start my nighttime routine.  I jumped in the shower, forgetting I had this on.  When I looked in the mirror, it was still on!!  This stuff lasted through a nap, dinner and a shower!  No joke.

This might seem pricey at $18, but it is worth it. 100% worth it.

I’m in love.  We will live a long happy live together.

Best, Johanna

Top Three Vamp Lip Colors

My, Oh My! I love a good vamp lip. Vamp lips can be perfect for fall, or whatever, summer too! I wear what I am in the mood for regardless of the season. And if I am in the mood for a vamp or even black lip, I rock it. If you don’t like it…don’t look!

  1. M.A.C Dark Side – Memories! This was the first dark lipstick I ever bought.
  2. Anastasia Beverly Hills Sad Girl – This name, I love this name! This is a liquid lipstick, so it dries down and there is no transfer. This is a dark maroon color with pink micro-glitter running throughout. Gorgeous.
  3. Smashbox Bordeaux – The finish of this line from Smashbox is nice because it is a stain, but also has a glossy finish. This is a nice dark wine color and once the gloss wears off, you are left with a nice stain.

What is your favorite vampy lip color?

I thought this looked like a good way to have your hair up and away, but still look really put together. This was a fast and simple hair style (link to eye look in these photos). Also, let me just be honest and say that I am not good at doing hair…not even a little bit.

Story Time: How I Found a Decent $2 Mascara

This is a horror story about that time I left my house without mascara on and found a hidden gem at the drugstore. I had a full face on: foundation, neutral eyes, cream cup by MAC on the lips, then when I get in the car I realized I forgot to apply mascara!   Now, I realize this is not really a big deal…it is just mascara. But I like mascara; it makes the eyes look complete and flirty. Typically I keep a small mascara in my purse, but for whatever reason I didn’t have one on this particular day.

I was going to be out all day doing various things. The first chance I had to stop in the drugstore was after lunch. I was in the cosmetic section of Long’s (drugstore) and there are so many good mascaras; The rocket by Maybelline, ClumpCrusher by covergirl, list goes on. Then I saw this $2 ELF mascara… I thought…ok…whatcha got, ELF?!

I got in the car after purchasing it and put it on. Was impressed! Reminded me of the rocket, as it has a similar brush.

This mascara claims to add volume and define. Now, I did have to build this up. So there is that. Plus, this has a really flexible brush. I didn’t like that. But I was in a pinch and saved about $10 by not buying L’oreal Telescopic, so I figured that wasn’t a huge deal. After applying several coats, this mascara didn’t clump and it lasted all day with no smudging.

So first impressions on this were pretty good. The fact this was so cheap is playing a big role here! I mean, Doritos cost more than that!

What are some hidden gems you’ve found in a pinch?

Monthly Favorites: November 2015

This month was slow! I was using pretty much the same stuff as other months. A couple favorites do stand out. And next month…2015 favorites! How time flies.

Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix Eyeshadow Palette – This palette is so versatile, I used it almost every single day. Literally love everything about it. Big fan of her brand in general, if I am being honest.

Household Items:

Bath and Body Works Marshmallow Fireside Candle – Ahhh. It’s sweet with the smell of a fire. This is one of my favorite candles, but this month it’s all I’ve been burning!

The Shield – I started watching this show and love it! I loved Sons of Anarchy, which is by the same guy. This show is often compared to The Wire, which I didn’t like, but the Shield is great. It’s fast paced, interesting, lots of turns and twists. Good stuff!
