Review: Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso

Before I got interested in makeup I thought there was one type of blush: pink.

Boy, was I wrong. That is like saying all your black shoes are the same. Not the case! I was always hesitant on blush because I have fair skin and I also blush easily on my own. I figured why buy a product to enhance that. Then I learned about proper application and variety.

Step in Luminoso.

DSC_0095Yes, the packaging is a bit cheesy. It’s plastic gold and feels really cheap. If it makes you feel better, there is a mirror and brush included so that might make this break even in terms of packaging. Also, this is available at the drugstore and is about $5! Another plus.

DSC_0098This blush is a classic coral color. It has a hint of shimmer but nothing too chunky or obnoxious. Truth be told, if only like matte blushes you most likely will not like this.  Also, I did find this a bit powdery.  I had to blow away some of the product in the pan (you can see that in the first picture).  But, overall…another great drugstore find!

What’s our favorite drugstore blush?

THE FALL FAVORITES TAG

The fall is a wonderful time of year.  I grew up in Connecticut and it’s magical.  The leaves change, the air has a crispness to it, apple picking and pumpkin patches.  I love the fall so much I got married in the fall!  100% my favorite season.  That is one of the hardest parts about being a New Englander in Hawaii…no fall!

So, in light of my adoration for the season I decided to do the fall favorites tag.

Favorite Candle

Sweater Weather! Besides this having a cute name, the smell is so nice.  It’s mild enough that it won’t set you into a migraine, but fragrant enough to warm up the house.  This is described on Bathandbodyworks.com as, “a cozy blend of aromatic eucalyptus, juniper berry & fresh sage.” I love the pumpkin scented candles too, but this is my top choice!

Favorite Lip Color

IMG_8808M.A.C. Rebel – now, to be honest, this is a favorite all year…BUT, it is especially nice in the fall. It’s a pretty dark, berry color.

Favorite Drink

Is it boring if I say black coffee? I just love plain black coffee. It smells good.  It’s warm.  It’s perfect!  On those days where I feel I deserve a treat…nothing too surprising…Pumpkin Spice Latte with soy.  Yum.  Yum.  Yum.

Favorite Blush

Screen Shot 2015-09-21 at 3.50.26 PMBenefit Rockateur – This blush is a nice rose gold color. It adds warmth and glow to the face without being overpowering.

Favorite Clothing Item

Where I live it doesn’t get cold in the normal fall season. We don’t feel a chill until later, but, I really love a good lightweight scarf. Makes me feel like it’s the fall season even if its 85 degrees outside.

Favorite Fall Movie

Anything scary!

Favorite Fall TV Show

Screen Shot 2015-09-21 at 3.27.30 PMEasy. Walking Dead! Their seasons start in October and we are all in!  I made those “intestines” above last year for the show.

Favorite Thanksgiving Food

There is no way I could possibly choose one. Sweet potatoes, broccoli casserole, pumpkin pie, stuffing. Who says a vegetarian can’t pig out on Thanksgiving!

Favorite Halloween Costume

Screen Shot 2015-09-21 at 3.26.05 PMHave you seen the movie the purge? That is what I dressed up as last year. Love a scary costume!

What about you guys?

Review: NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencil

DSC_0063  Cheap Alert! This NARS shadow pencil retails for only $10. And really, that is the only reason I bought it. But, to my delight, turns out this pencil is really nice! The color shown is Corcovado, described as a 24 karat gold.

DSC_0062

There is something so chic about NARS packaging. It is so simple, yet somehow it exudes style.

The texture is soft and it applies well. Here you can see it applied to my inner corner.

FullSizeRender 2On the eye this pencil looks much more bronze than the swatch below. Goes to show that how you use this and what you blend it with can change it. You can use it straight, like in swatch below, and get a bright yellow gold. Or, you can use it like I did above blended with mulch brown and get a more bronzed look.

This packs a punch, right? Check out a close up of the pencil.

This shadow pencil is also offered in a green color, called celebrate. It is described as a parrot green. This color looked interesting, but the gold seemed more wearable.

Overall, my review for this shadow pencil is great! This wears all day and didn’t crease. You can use it multiple ways to get different color pay-offs. And, like any shadow stick, application is incredibly simple.

21 Day Fix

It’s always something. It’s a vacation, stress, new job, weird work hours or hormones throwing you off and making you eat poorly. Seems like once you get a taste and in the habit of eating badly, it is harder to stop. Here I am feeling like I need to refresh my body and reset my nutrition.

My friend recommended this program, 21 day fix.  The background on this plan is the focus on portion control and clean eating. I am hesitant to say “diet” because really this is re-teaching you how to portion food properly and eat the right things. You figure out what bracket you are in and match up your food accordingly. You can google the infomercial, buy the supplies on amazon or search on pinterest. All the charts below can be found on my pinterest board. This pin was really helpful to get to know how much I can eat a day.

63644b335f6e8c838943a734e9c7abb8One thing to mention is that this is a vegetarian friendly plan. The proteins include veggie burgers, tofu and, if you eat them, eggs. I am always weary about eating plans since I am a vegetarian, but there are tons of options! Beans fall into a different category, but those are approved as well. See a sample list I found below (this one includes meat).

1b48116c0a2e5a43bcb7810575116286So that is that. Oh, and you can have coffee! Score! I drink coffee black anyway, but just leave out the sugar and cream. This plan really just focuses on eating the good and real stuff. There are a lot of foods to choose from and endless recipes on pinterest if you search. The plan is setup for success. You can swap for a glass of wine or a portion of chocolate covered raisins (which we found at Costco for $10!).

From what I have heard and read, it seems that the most important part of this eating plan is PREP. So, PREP! Went to Costco today to get approved bread, proteins, fruit and veggies. The rest of the items we will up at any local food store. Seemed to be a good idea to get lots of fruit and veggies in bulk since you can eat a lot of it, same with protein.

In addition to eating properly, the plan mentions to do their 30-minute workouts each day. Now, we won’t be doing the workouts they give but we are committing to workout at least 30 minutes a day, whether it be a run, blogilates videos on YouTube, Bikram, etc.

We had our last unapproved meal…crepes. It is one of our favorites.  This is also our first meal when we are done with our 21 days!

I’ll post a blog once the 21 days is up explaining how it went. Have you tried this eating plan? Did you like it?  Share tips and recipes!

Review: NYX Brow Powder Kit

YES!  AMAZING DRUGSTORE FINDS AHEAD!  DSC_0183 Recently I died my hair. Hence why I needed a new brow kit. Let’s be honest, brow powders last forever! I got one about two years ago from Nordstrom Rack, the urban decay powder duo. I used that pretty religiously and only saw pan on it recently. However, the tones are medium brown. I went RED! Well, purple/red, plum, however you want to describe it. So with a different hair color, I was thinking that my brows just looked odd. I thought maybe an auburn powder would help match the red tones in my new hair color.

DSC_0184Step 1: Purchase. Any excuse to go to the drugstore, am I right? I popped into my local Walgreens and picked up the NYX Brow Powder kit in Auburn.   It was about $6, not bad at all! And, I like the packaging.  Keeps the brushes all in one place and is pretty compact, at least compared to the Urban Decay Brow Box.

DSC_0187Step 2: Apply! The kit comes with an angled brush to apply and a comb to blend it out. The brush is ok…was a little wide for me. I prefer to use the brush from the Urban Decay kit (the purple one) to apply the powder and then use the NYX brush to set with the wax (after combing out with comb). What’s nice is that all the brushes fit perfectly!

DSC_0185Step 3: Wear. Yep, wears just fine! I locked it on with a clear brow gel. Didn’t smudge off at all.

So overall, I was pleased with this decision. The auburn brow powder color did exactly what I was hoping and matches the red tones in my new hair. And the brow kit? How did I not know about this sooner? This stuff is the bomb!

Until next time, plant nothing but love.

Samples (2)

IMG_8432

  1. Bobbi Brown BB Cream – This was ok. The color was too dark for me, so it was hard to tell. It was so dark that maybe I didn’t give it a fair chance… I guess that is the trouble with some samples!! I did notice that it had a nice consistency and did not give off an offensive smell.
  2. Sephora Express Eye Makeup Remover Wipes- These were good! I don’t think these are better than any drugstore option, but did the job. The convenience was key here, in these travel sized and ready to go packages.
  3. Make Up Forever Plexi-Gloss – Desperately I wanted to like these! They were so thick and felt like cement on my lips! I don’t mind a sticky gloss, but I didn’t like these… Could be the sample though, since I applied with my finger and not a proper application. I will take the fault on this one!
  4. Tarte BB Tinted Primer – This was a cool idea, Tarte! I would really like this on a day that you want full coverage. This has a nice mouse-like texture and lots of colors to choose from. Liked it!
  5. Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer – Yep. Just, yep. This stuff is great. I already use this on a regular basis. Do you use this? If not…you must try it! The undertones are ashy enough to contour with if you want, but also give off a nice warm glow. This stuff is the best.

Current Favorite K-Cups

Not sure where you stand on coffee. For me… I love it. I love the ritual of it, the smell of it. Also, waking up really early for work I rely on it to put some pep in my step. For the longest time I was a French Press kinda gal, but a few years ago we splurged on a Keurig. Best thing we’ve done! Here are my favorite k-cups at the moment.

IMG_8673

  1. Dunkin’ Donuts French Vanilla – the vanilla is not too sweet. This coffee is so delightful; it feels like a treat.
  2. Honolulu Coffee Company Kona – my dear husband got this for me as a surprise! It is delicious! The richness of the Kona coffee is great. I usually drink coffee black and brews like this remind me why.
  3. Donut Shop Coffee – this is just a normal, basic coffee brew. A classic for sure!

Also, depending on what version of a Keurig you have, you might need to use this trick I found online to make the k-cups with out the white border (like the Kona blend above) to work in your system.

What k-cups do you love?
