Growing Out a Short Haircut

Growing out your hair is excruciating. I have no patience whatsoever, so waiting for something that depends on biological cycles and time is really hard for me.

I’ve gone through phases of all colors and cuts. But, for the last five years or more, I have had medium but closer to short hair. My hair was a short bob for a while, and then I decided I wanted to commit to growing it. I have wavy hair…so…I knew I had to have an end goal in mind to not get fed up with the process and chop off the hair. My goal: Zooey Deschanel. Besides being perfect, she has incredible hair. Totally crushing on her.

Her bangs are so bold; her hair is the perfect length. This was my goal.

So, it’s been a while since my hair was shorter than my chin. I would say it took about two years. I have had it trimmed and re-shaped along the way. This is what takes so long, evening out the layers. Pinterest was helpful, I found this cool guide to growing out hair.

One tip I can give for people growing out their hair is to have a goal in mind. Find a picture of someone, celebrity or otherwise and remind yourself every time you feel like you are getting too annoyed. It’s a process for sure. But when you get to the moment you’ve been waiting for. It feels sweet!

From here on out it is all just maintenance and growth. I feel grown up and put together. This hair is definitely encompassing where I am in life right now.

Until next time, plant nothing but love.
