Instant Eye Refreshers

So what’s the deal with instant eye refreshers? They are supposed to reduce puffiness and give a cooling sensation. I have tried two: Garnier (tinted) and ELF (clear).

While these do feel cooling on the skin…they don’t do anything for me. This isn’t a beauty product I am into.
Are you into this type of product? If so… why? What do you love about it? Share below!

Best Gel Eyeliner Brush Ever…$3?!

Once upon a time I feel into the black hole commonly referred to as Target. I was in the cosmetics department checking out the ELF stuff. I needed a new black gel liner and saw they made one for super cheap, in pure ELF fashion. I figured it could be one of those hits from ELF and if it turned out to be a miss, no biggie…it was only $3!

Let just say that I am on my second container of this stuff, it is REAL good. But that is not what this post is about. It came with a brush…that brush!
When you buy an ELF gel liner you get a mini little brush in the box. This brush is perfect. The density allows for the perfect thickness and gives room to build up or leave thin. The angle of the brush fits so nicely on the eye area and also gives such nice precision when sculpting your wing (if you are making one).

If you ever get this eyeliner, keep the brush! It is so great.
PSA out.

Is it a Dupe? Maybelliene Color Tattoo in Edgy Emerald VS M.A.C Fluidline in Ivy

Disclaimer: it is ok to break makeup rules and experiment.

Have you tried Maybelliene Color Tattoos? These cream shadows are BOMB.COM. The color bad to the bronze especially, wow, great cream shadow. I liked that so much I went back for other colors, one being the Edgy Emerald. When I was writing my review of the Ivy Fluidline by M.A.C I noticed a striking similarity…could these be dupes?

Commence investigation…
First, swatch test. The Maybelline applied patchy and was not as smooth. This is something that I attributed to it being used for something other than it’s main purpose. Since this is meant as a shadow, the more dry text makes sense to me in a way. You can see in the swatches that the top one, the M.A.C one, is a tad darker. Close enough…
Second, application test. Using the same brush, I applied the liners to my eye. Top picture is showing the ivy liner and the bottom picture is showing the maybelline.  The Maybelline needed a bit more work and was patchy. But with patience and persistence you can build this up.

Third, wear time. The M.A.C liner stays all day. Since I wear this liner a lot, I already knew this. Both of our green friends had long last time; the swathes on my hand were still there after an entire day (working, dishes, etc.).
Final thoughts?
Not an exact dupe, BUT, this is close enough. If you want to try a nice green liner look and don’t want to splurge on the M.A.C version, give these color tattoos a try. Plus, there are always rotating brand sales at the drugstore so you can get really good deals on these. I do think the Color Tattoo will dry up much faster and not last as long as the M.A.C liner, so that is something to consider. The application and wear time are both pretty good though. Note that I didn’t try this with other colors, so I can truly only speak to the green Color Tattoo.

Let me know if you have tried any of the other colors in this way! Hope you like it!

Black Smokey Eye with a Touch of Gold

There is something so chic about a classic matte black smokey eye, check out my recent blog here. However, there was this one time where I had a smokey eye on, then out of nowhere, Amber Lights shadow by M.A.C starting calling my name. I thought, hm, what would it look like if I added a light sweep of that to my black smokey eye? Screen Shot 2015-06-07 at 9.10.03 PM

I took a “c” brush and added the gold shadow to my lid and then swooped it under my lash line. I really added some dimension to the look!

Is there a trick that you guys do to change up a smokey eye?

Top Three Lip Balms

Hi friends! This post is going to be about lip balms. Simple.  As.  That.

  •  First Aid Beauty – If you have really dry lips, this is great! I included this in my May 2015 favorites since I really needed to rescue my lips in a pinch.
  • Chapstick Moisture – I bought this at Long’s and was hooked. I feel like you can really notice it sinking in and hydrating as you wear it. After I was using this for a few weeks straight I can truly say I noticed a change. And the best part is that this is so cheap!
  • EOS – I like all of these, really, but I would say my favorite is the mint. It tingles when you put it on and the mint is a general nice and neutral scent. This works pretty well though and they last forever. This used to be my favorite, and I still love them, but after using the chapstick one listed above I think I prefer that one to this.

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed

I wrote this release date in my planner. Not kidding. I don’t think I have ever been SO excited for a product release. There were several reasons I knew this was going to be on a purchase list. The only real shimmer highlight I have is from ColourPop and I don’t find myself reaching for it at all. The color is maybe a little too dark for my fair skin. I usually just use the M.A.C eye shadow in shroom, to be honest. Second, I love Jaclyn. She is so funny and definitely one of my favorite beauty gurus. Lastly, she mentioned in a video that she made this video for fair skinned girls in mind because she knows how hard it is to find a good highlight for fair skin. So…SOLD!

This product is only available at Sephora and is a limited edition product which means once it is out…it is gone! The color name is Champagne Pop and for $38. You get a lot of product in the compact (.28 oz).

This Champagne Pop has the most beautiful packaging, can’t you just feel the bubbles spritzing in your face?

The back of the box has a nice note from J. Hill.

DSC_0139I don’t own any Becca highlighters, but this packaging on the actual compact is the same as the others. It looks almost industrial to me, which I love because highlights are so glowy.

DSC_0142It’s just so cool.  One more pic… just one more… DSC_0141

The product itself is truly a champagne color. Comes with a cute overlay with her signature.

DSC_0152IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL. What does she always say, “highlight on fleek.” Yes. So much fleek.

DSC_0143Now let’s look at some swatches. This is so soft and not greasy whatsoever.

This product is worth the cost. Not only can you use it to highlight, but I have used it as an eye shadow too. I almost want to buy a back up! Did you pick up this limited edition highlight? What do you think?

Erin Condren 2016 Rose Gold Horizontal Planner

Before I get into this post and all the beautiful pictures and details, I want to give you a little background.

1-I have a terrible memory so writing things down is a way I counteract that. I am huge on making lists and writing down things so I don’t forget. This goes for work and general personal items.

2- Ask anyone who knows me, really knows me, and they will tell you that I love all things stickers, stationary, office supplies, scrapbooking, etc. Lisa Frank??? Anyone else remember that?

Ok, so now the good stuff! Last year I got my first Erin Condren planner. Before this I used other planners and my iPhone. I never really liked using my iPhone.  I was deciding between some more proper planners (filofax, LV, etc.) and then I found Erin Condren. I didn’t look anymore. It was like finding your wedding dress…when you know, you know!

Check out Erin Condren here.

I use that planner everyday. I love it so much I knew I was going to get another for the upcoming year. I saw OrganizedJen’s (who has changed her brand to Pretty Neat Living) review of the new ROSE GOLD HORIZONAL edition and I think I shed one single tear of joy. IT MUST BE MINE! By the way, have you checked out her blog and YouTube channel? She is one of my favorites. She is so real and so bright. She is my age and not over the top and just seems like a genuine person. Check her out if you haven’t. And her dog is just too cute.

I believe these are sold out now, but I was lucky enough to snag one. Look how gorgeous the packaging is.

IMG_8332You open this up and it is so nicely packed. I ordered some extras and those were right on top along with a cute sticker and nice postcard. Who doesn’t love freebies?

FullSizeRenderAnd here she is…I shall call her Grace! Classy, chic, truly everything I hoped for. I ordered the ready to ship version, so I got a voucher for a free personalized cover. I am even thinking that the back cover could be used as the front cover, to switch it up. Right?

Here is a close up of the month page. Every month has a different quote. The color scheme on the horizontal layout, as well as the design itself, is different from the vertical versions that EC has.

In the two pictures below you can see the different layouts and how the colors are also different. The vertical layout for the new ones seem to still look similar to last year in terms of the bright colors (although there are some other minor changes).

The back of the planner includes stickers as usual, which fit into the allotments on the month/day pages. Look…a vote sticker! Such a nice touch.

FullSizeRender-6 2There is also a folder and pouch in the back of the planner. The folder comes with a perpetual calendar to write all your birthdays, anniversaries, etc. The pocket also came with some more freebies. So. Fun.

As for the extras that I purchased, I wanted to get free shipping so I added on some extras. I got meal planner insert, a budget book, a new cover (the covers are interchangeable and, yes, sturdy), penholder and daily dots.

FullSizeRender-8 2This planner is the best. It holds up and is so sturdy. It is functional, leaving space for work, play, chores and more. And most of all…it is so cute! I don’t care how cheesy it is, this planner brings me endless joy and keeps me motivated.

Do you prefer paper planners to electronic calendars? What do you use to plan?
