Review: M.A.C Fluidline Eye-Liner Gel in Ivy

Spoiler: The smoothness of these M.A.C gel liners could bring a girl to tears!

FullSizeRender-2 What do you look for in a liner?

For me, it has to be smudge proof. I have dry skin, so it isn’t that; I wear contacts and have allergies so my eyes water a lot. While I think the drugstore has amazing gel liners options (the ELF one for $3 is one of my favorites and rivals the Bobbi Brown liner), the M.A.C version is a great midlevel option. At $16, this liner is somewhere between the Maybelliene ($7.99) and Bobbi Brown ($25).

FullSizeRender-6 Actually, the black version of this M.A.C gel liner was the first gel liner I ever purchased. I don’t even think I was 20 years old at the time, maybe 18. I had it so long that it dried up and I had to toss it! These are wonderful liners. And yep, these do not move. No really! There is a wide color range as well; for this post we look at ivy.

FullSizeRender-3 This is a beautiful emerald color. The website describes this as a fresh leaf green. Pretty spot on, wouldn’t you say? This is not a green that is so deep it looks brown or black, there is not questioning the color here. If you have green eyes like me, this will really make them pop.

FullSizeRender-7 Application is smooth and does not skip on the lid. If you want you can also build up this color. Your choice.

If you’re looking for a fun liner to try, give this one a whirl!

Best Face Mask for Dry Skin

 DSC_0039

Oatifix is about to make your day. Twist open the cap of this fresh face mask by lush and be blown away by the scent of fresh bananas. This mask is made primarily of bananas and oatmeal, you can smell it already…right!?

DSC_0040This mask is only sold in stores, you can find if you have one near you here. I am fortunate enough to have one in my local mall and I pick this mask up often. These are fresh, so there is an expiration date. Also, these must be kept in the refrigerator.  But as soon as you put this on you can feel your skin soaking it up. For my fellow dry skin peeps out there, give this a shot!

IMG_7417Honestly, I pick up a new one as soon as I finish my open one. Save these tubs once you finish them, you can get free mask!

What is your favorite face mask?

Review: M.A.C 217 Brush

There are some things, makeup wise, that I just can’t live without. This brush is one of them. The M.A.C 217 brush is my crease brush; I do not think I could do my makeup without it! It is just the right size to get in the crease and blend the color out. It puts on the right amount of product and gives you the perfect application. It is also really soft and it doesn’t prick you when you are blending out your crease. Soft brushes are worth the cost, at least in my opinion, since the skin around the eye is so sensitive.

I know this brush seems a bit pricey, but at $24 you are paying for quality. I have had mine for over 5 years and it is still in good condition. If you want to keep your brushes in good condition, you have to take care of them. For care I spot clean it after every use and deep clean it once a week.

FullSizeRender-1 Here in this picture you can see the brush on the top is the really old 217. The other one is a newer 217 that I bought about two months ago. Besides some minor staining on the older brush…they look the same. See what I mean about good quality? Five years of using this brush almost every day and it looks the essentially the same as a relatively new one.
FullSizeRender This brush has a great shape; it is kind of pinched at the base. You can see this in the comparison of the pictures above to the picture below; the picture on the top is at a flat angle while the picture on the bottom shows you the brush on it’s side. See how it is not perfectly round?  How it pinches in?

Below is a picture of the 217 in action.

Worth the Hype? ColourPop

A JoJo's Tale

IMG_7723

I’m going to be honest with you.  The reason I was drawn to this brand was because the shadows are really sparkly. There has been so much hype about this brand.

Recently ColourPop was having a promotion for their anniversary that you could get a free shadow with any purchase. That mixed with the email signup coupon of $5 off, I thought this was the perfect time to try ColourPop! I ordered the In Bloom kit which comes with 2 blush, 1 highlighter and 3 lippie stix. I also ordered 1 eye shadow and then got the free one. Lastly, I ordered another lippie stix in Frida. I figured this way I could try a little bit of everything they have to offer. And besides the coupon/freebie, the price is so good! So if these items work out I have a feeling this brand could really by a home run. …

Worth the Hype? ColourPop

They also offer bronzers, but that is not something I was interested in so I passed.

IMG_7722Ok, so nothing will break in this box! As you can see it is really padded to protect the products. These products have a unique spongy/bouncy texture so there are tips on how to use them. Also, a handwritten note! I’m sure they have interns or teams of people just writing the notes and filling in names, but still a nice touch.

 In Bloom Kit ($39)

IMG_7732I actually received two of the same lip product in this kit. I wrote to ColourPop and they replied in under 24 hours saying they would send out the correct product that was not included. So because of that, the pics for frenimie will be separate. Great customer service.  I will be passing the extra lippie over to a friend, spread the love!

So overall, these products are so great. The shadows are easily applied with your finger and last a while, same with the blush. The lips are packaged in a way that make application simple and there is a mild vanilla scent.  Also, these stain a little which is something I LOVE in a lipstick.  The blush I used with a stipple brush, same with the highlight, and was pleased.  I’m happy to report that I have nothing bad to say about this brands products or customer service.

Book Sale Scores!

As I’ve mentioned before, I love reading.  I love reading a hardcover or on a kindle.  I love memoirs, fantasy, fiction and even an occasional physics book.  I just love it, reading makes me feel whole.  It relaxes me, distresses me and engages my imagination.

Every year we have a local book sale.  All the proceeds go back into the public library system and there are TONS of books that are so cheap.  The book sale is a week long…but of course my husband and I were on line on day one!  Here is what I picked up.

IMG_8243-1The entire Harry Potter series.  I got all seven books for about 20-25 dollars.  Can you believe it?  They are in really good condition, too.  I have read the first one but wanted to finish the series.  It’s something that has been on my list for a while.  The set goes for a pretty penny on amazon for kindle, so this book sale was a good place for me to read them.  I felt like when I saw them they were just there waiting for me to take them home.  It was meant to be!

IMG_8244 Game of Thrones.  I didn’t get all of the series at the book sale, but the middle three I picked up for…$1.50 each!  WHAT!  We ran to Barnes and Noble to get the first and last book of the series.  A while ago I tried to read the first book but at page 100 I realized that I didn’t know who was who and what was what.  There are a lot of characters to keep straight.  So why did I want to give these another shot? Couple reasons.  First, I like this type of story.  I mean, dragons really get me every time.  Second, I am a super fan of the show now so I think the visuals of seeing the characters will help with the reading.  Currently in a love affair/obsession/stalking book one and it is a lot easier to follow.

Jurassic Park and The Lost World, by Michael Crichton.  Love the movies, all of them, old and new.  Jurassic Park I have never read, so I saw this for $1 and it was a no brainer.  Excited to finally read the books.

And the best part about picking up a series you’ve been wanting?  Putting them up in their home on the bookshelf!  There is something so special about that…is it just me?

We will probably head back another day before the week is out, but there isn’t much else I need or am looking for.  Don’t you just love a good book sale?

Happy Reading!

Review: Kat Von D Ink Liner

DSC_0893 2There has been a push in cosmetics lately and it seems like a lot of brands are out there with colored liquid liner. But, some of the colors I have tried have been disappointing. Some have no pigmentation, so you have to go over and over to get the look you want. Others have brushes I don’t like, the NYX one for example. I saw the Kat Von D new Ink Liners on Sephora and they seemed to be good. I gave it a shot. DSC_0859

While I wish I could’ve ordered a purple and light lilac purple or forest green and mint green, I went with the next best thing: blues! I got Nerdrum and Nietzsche.   Nerdrum is a cobalt blue and Nietzsche is more of a periwinkle.   The white looks pretty interesting. I wanted to get that, but then I wasn’t sure how I would use it. Any tips? DSC_0891 2

The tip on these liners is NOT like the tattoo liquid liner that is a cult favorite from her line. That has a tapered fine brush tip, while these liners have a felt tip. What I noticed most is that this is much more firm than that of Stila’s, for example. The “stamping” method works well with these because of that.

DSC_0888 2 Pigmentation is on point with these. Check out the swatches!

With Flash:

DSC_0889 2This stuff is just insane. She is the QUEEN. As I said before, I wish there were purples and more greens, but who knows. Maybe in time she will expand this range.

DSC_0864 2 Do you have any of these liners? If so, what do you think? If not, are you planning on picking some up?
