Have you see the new mascara from Benefit Cosmetics? I got a sample from Sephora and YES! Roller Lash is so nice! Let me admit something. I am a huge fan of Benefit’s mascaras. They’re Real is one of my top favorite mascaras ever.
It’s time for…Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Mascara versus Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara. Let the games begin! Ok- that was a tad dramatic. But really, before we get too into this review, let’s get the general overview, side-by-side with a possible dupe.
- Roller Lash is a sample size, but the full size looks pretty similar.
- Lash Sensational shown in full size.
- Roller Lash: $24
- Lash Sensational: $6.99
- Roller Lash: Yes
- Lash Sensational: Yes
- Roller Lash: Seems black, only 1 option
- Lash Sensational: Blackest Black, Brownish Black, Very Black
- Roller Lash: No
- Lash Sensational: Yes. Brownish Black, Very Black
- Roller Lash: dry
- Lash Sensational: wet (you can almost see that in the picture below)
Initially, what made me think of this as a dupe was the brush. They seem to be so similar. As you can see in the close up, they both have that unique shape with one end having short hooks (as Benefit describes them) for what is supposed to grab and curl as you apply. Benefit notes their brush is patent-pending so there is a difference that is unbeknownst to me with the brushes. They seem very similar.
The one main difference I noticed was the amount of product they pick up. They apply similarly, fanning the lashes as you pull up. However, the Maybelline mascara is more wet of a formula and also seems to have a lot more product on the brush so it does clump if you don’t brush it out or apply with thin coats. The Roller Lash I didn’t really have to do that with.
The other big claim of the Roller Lash is that it gives you a long lasting curl. I can’t speak to this much as I have a natural curl in my lashes.
So, is it a dupe? The Roller Lash is AMAZING. I will not deny that. I love benefit mascaras so that wasn’t too much of a shock that this was a huge hit. Both of these mascaras separate and provide lots of volume. While they aren’t exactly alike I did notice a lot of similarities between the two. There are a lot of great mascaras on the market both high-end and at the drugstore. I don’t think either will beat out my holy grails (They’re Real and The Rocket – funny they are Benefit Cosmetics and Maybelline respectively), but these are super nice options.
Until next time, plant nothing but love.
